Health Equity in Action: Designing Culturally Competent, Community-Centered Research Programs

This hands-on course teaches you how to design and lead research engagement strategies that truly reflect the communities you serve, that will naturally lead to higher recruitment numbers from diverse populations. Dr. Ren's 4-E Model is the foundation of this course — a simple, impactful framework to transform how we engage communities in research: Educate – Teach the community about research and health topics in ways that are clear, relevant, and empowering. Engage – Create open dialogue and safe spaces for questions and honest discussion. Empower – Connect people with real resources, next steps, and lasting support. Extend – Give back to the community through appreciation, respect, and reciprocity. Together, these steps shift research from informing people to including people.
